2nd Vice Commander Nominee
William "Bill" McGahey
Mr. McGahey enlisted in the United States Air Force in November 1962. After Basic Training, he attended the Nuclear Weapons School and the Weapons Loader School. He served as an Instructor in both fields at Lowry AFB, CO. Mr. McGahey also served as an Aerial Gunner on AC-130 from 68-69, at Ubon AFB, Thailand. He returned from Assignment in Turkey to Vandenberg AFB, CA., and was assigned to 1st Strad as explosives safety NCO and munitions superintendent. Mr. McGahey retired from the Air Force in July 1984.
After retiring Mr. McGahey went to work for Lockheed SOC on the shuttle program at Vandenberg as operations and pad safety engineer. He supported the transportation of numerous shuttle payloads and shuttle landings at Edwards AFB and Cape Canaveral. He then transferred to the missile and space division supporting satellite processing on east & west coasts for the Titan II & Titan IV. Mr. McGahey worked with the commercial Lockheed Martin group as safety engineer for payload processing at Baikinour Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan. He retired from Lockheed Martin in 2007.
