In less than 10 weeks, hundreds of American Legion Riders will depart upstate New York for the National Commander’s Ride – the first leg of The American Legion Legacy Run Home. And while the Ride doesn’t officially start until the morning of Aug. 21, there will be plenty for participants to do in the days leading up to it.
The American Legion Riders at Post 1451 in Wheatfield, N.Y., have a full schedule of activities, starting with a cruise of Lake Ontario on Aug. 17 and finishing with breakfast put on by Auxiliary Unit 1451 the morning the ride departs. In between, there will be rides to Niagara Falls, the Zippo Museum and other local attractions.
A barbecue is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Aug. 18, and a hot dog cookout is set for 5 p.m. Aug. 19. There also will be a ride kick-off dinner at 5 p.m. Aug. 20.
