The American Legion will be the Presenting Sponsor of the sixth annual Warrior Appreciation Night (WAN), one of the premier events the week of the Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show in Las Vegas on Jan. 17. And as part of WAN, there is currently an online raffle of firearms that the United States Practical Shooting Association is hosting on their website at www.uspsa.org/warrior. A portion of the proceeds to be given to Operation Comfort Warriors (OCW) at the event. You don’t need to be present to win.
WAN will give attendees and invited guests of the National Shooting Sports Foundation the opportunity to reflect and honor their fallen brethren, veterans and law enforcement with distinguished guests, decorated warriors and Congressional Medal of Honor recipients. It will also be an opportunity to raise funds for The American Legion and seven other veteran charities.
"This is certainly out of the box thinking and a new way for The American Legion to do business," said Daniel S. Wheeler, national adjutant of The American Legion National Headquarters in Indianapolis. "The Warrior Appreciation Night is a great way to acknowledge and honor our heroes — those who have served and those currently serving to protect our nation and the communities where we live. The American Legion is truly honored to be the Presenting Sponsor of Warrior Appreciation Night."
In 2011, WAN had more than 500 participants but up to 800 are expected to attend this year. There is a new level of excitement as founding organizers partnered with Patriot Promotions who procured The American Legion as the Presenting Sponsor, as another way of showing their support of our military, our veterans and their families.
Additional media from the shooting and outdoor industry are expected, along with other reporters and military bloggers. V-SPANN will provide a production crew that will be filming throughout the night to document the event and the special surprise guests who are expected late in the evening. The event will offer an entertaining segment for those filming "SHOT Show" episodes and valuable exposure for The American Legion.
During the event, veterans such as actor Michael Gregory will emcee the entertainment portion along with veteran comedians and DJs from Vets on Radio. Fundraising will be intermixed in the form of live and silent auctions with a variety of items to bid on, including custom firearms and accessories, and sports, entertainment and military memorabilia, training courses and more.
Please contact Jill Trammell of Patriot Promotions at (239)-273-4783 to arrange for exclusive interviews and video coverage or Scott Miller from The American Legion at (317)-860-3020 to talk about the Legion’s involvement in WAN.

And for information about the United States Practical Shooting Association online raffle benefiting OCW, please visit www.uspsa.com. OCW is a program dedicated to meeting the needs of wounded, injured or ill military personnel by providing them with comfort items not usually supplied by the government. Items include loose-fitting sweatsuits for burn victims, exercise equipment and entertainment in the form of DVDs, CDs and more. All of OCW’s administrative and marketing costs are paid for by the Legion’s general fund, meaning that 100 percent of donated funds go directly to purchasing comfort items for the troops.
