April 2013 Meeting Minutes (Draft)

Adjutant's Report
We had one new member join and one member transfer. We still need everyone who has not done so to  pay their 2012-2013 dues.

Unfinished Business

  • Memorial Day Poppies - We are waiting to hear back from the HWY 20 Walmart as to whether we can set up tables in front of their store. We will need volunteers to man the tables for Saturday, 25 May for 2-3 hour shifts. Email Commander Blevins if you would like to volunteer.
  • Grave Flags for Memorial Day - We will be placing flags on veterans' graves on Friday  24 May, meeting up at the City Cemetery on Mill Road at 0900. We need volunteers for this effort as well. We will again reach out to the local JROTCs and Boy Scouts to assist. Email Commander Blevins if you would like to volunteer.
  • Memorial Day Ceremony - We will be holding a Memorial Day Ceremony at the Madison Veterans Park at 1100 on Monday 27 May. Email Commander Blevins if you would like to volunteer to help setting up for the event.
  • JROTC Awards:
    • James Clemens - 24 April @ 1800
    • Bob Jones - 6 May @ 1700

  • 2013 Department of Alabama Convention: The Post voted to send a delegation to the Department Convention in June. Delegates for the convention will be elected at the May meeting.
  • Legion Baseball: Commander Blevins has been in contact with coordinators for both Westminster Christian Academy and James Clemens High School to discuss the Legion Baseball teams that Post 229 will be sponsoring. We look forward to a great season of Legion Baseball and will publish their schedules as soon as they are available. Lets go out and support these teams as we have opportunity.
  • Boys State: Post 229 will be sponsoring a student from Bob Jones High School for Boys State this year.
The Good of the American Legion
Run for the Wall - As has been previously published, Brian Boardman will be involved in the ride. Contact him for more info. Also Carl Dow will be heading a group up to Rainsville by suspending flags from one of the overpasses over I-95 as the riders pass under. If you want to be a part of that effort, email Carl.
