June 2014 Meeting Minutes (Draft)

The meeting was held on 12 June 2014 1900 at the  Madison Senior Center.

Call to Order

Approval of Previous Minutes
Commander Blevins Motioned to dispense with reading previous minutes and accept them as posted online. 2nd by Executive Committeemember Dumont. Passed by unanimous acclamation.


  • Adjutant
    Adjutant Pruett announced that 25 Legionnaires had transferred during District 12 revitalization effort. We are currently at 160 paid, active members. 4 new applicants that will be submitted in July. Motion to accept by Legionnaire Turbiner, 2nded, and passed by unanimous acclamation.
  • Finance - Finance Officer Jim Haugen
    Legionnaire Haugen provided the financial report. Copies were available for Legionnaires present. Commander Woods presented a receipt for reimbursement for $59.58 for wreaths he purchased for Memorial Day. A Motion for reimbursement for $59.58 to Commander Woods was made, seconded and passed by unanimous acclamation. Legionnaire Haugen also mentioned that the Post can order Legion service caps at cost and the Post will absorb the shipping costs. Orders will be placed when a large enough order to justify the shipping is queued up. Motion by Legionnaire Dumont to accept the finance report as read was seconded by Adjutant Pruett and passed by unanimous acclamation.
  • District/ County Report
    Commander Blevins announced the results of the District 12 elections at the June District meeting.
  • Boys State
    Commander Blevins reported on this year's session of Boys State. Around 50 boys attended from Madison County.

Unfinished Business

    Commander Woods reported on the last NAVFOC meeting. Discussion of NAVFOC's bylaws and the fact that an NAVFOC officer is not required to be a member of the NAVFOC's affiliate members. Commander Blevins commented that if we don't attend the NAVFOC's meeting, then we don't have an opportunity to vote for our stance. He also noted that the Coalition meets on the first Wednesday evening of each month, in conflict with many members church services. Additionally under this item, Past Commander Bridges, who is also a member of the DAV, discussed issues with the VA system.
  • Memorial Week
    Commander Woods thanked everyone who participated in the Memorial Day activities.
  • Department Convention
    Commander Woods discussed the Department Convention. Adjutant Pruett, a delegate for the convention announced he would not be able to attend. Sandra Bush volunteered, and was appointed as the replacement delegate.

New Business

  • Installation of Officers
    The officers elected in the May meeting were installed into office by Past Commander Bridges.
  • Discussion of corporate sponsorship
    Commander Blevins introduced the idea of seeking corporate sponsors for Post activities. He proposed different levels of sponsorship such as:
    • Liberty Bell - $1500/year
    • Bald Eagle - $500/ year
    • Silver Star - $250/ year
    • Minute Man - $100/year (individuals?)

      No motion was taken on the idea of corporate sponsorship at this meeting. It will be brought before the members for a vote at a future meeting.
