American Flag Retirement Ceremony - September 22, 2018
"Boy Scout Troop 201, working with the Madison American Legion Post 229, is holding an American Flag Retirement Ceremony at the Madison Veterans Park on Front Street Downtown Madison September 22 at 11 a.m. The public is welcome to attend. Residents having American flags needing retirement should take them to Madison City Hall and leave them with the receptionist." (The Madison Record)
The purpose of The American Legion in adopting this ceremony was to encourage proper respect for the Flag of the United States and to provide for disposal of unserviceable flags in a dignified manner. More information on the Unserviceable Flags Ceremony as outlined by the American Legion can be found at the following link: https://www.legion.org/flag/ceremony. Any questions or comments pertaining to the American Flag Retirement Ceremony or American Legion Post 229 membership or events may be made via email at email@example.com.
As a reminder, today's American Flag Retirements Ceremony at Madison Veteran's Memorial Park in downtown Madison is being performed by Boy Scout Troop 201. The ceremonial practices may be different from the American Legion for this ceremony, but the overall goal is the same: to retire worn and tattered American flags in a dignified manner.
