1 Oct - District 12 Meeting at Post 15 in Decatur 1-2 P.M. (Note: A free "lunch" precedes the meeting.)
4 Oct - The North Alabama Veterans and Fraternal Organization Coalition's 23rd Anniversary-third annual Founders' Day Lunch, 10-11 A.M. social; 11:30-12:30 Lunch/program.
7 Oct - Madison Street Festival. Legion meets before the event at Post 229's Legion Park in downtown Madison. Event starts at 9 A.M.
12 Oct - Monthly American Legion Post 229 Meeting: Auxiliary meeting 1730 (5:30 PM); Post Social 1830 (6:30 PM); Post 229 Meeting 1900 (7:00 PM) at Black Patch Distillery, 500 Lanier Dr. Suite C3, Madison.
10 Oct - First Command is offering a free class 7-8 P.M. at Black Patch Distillery: "Common Financial Mistakes". Contact Kathy Wilson: (256)513-6341.
16 Oct - Game Night at Tut Fann, (3rd Monday of each month) 18:00 to 20:00 hrs (6-8 PM).

19-20 Oct - 52nd Retiree Appreciation Days. 1.) 19 Oct: ID Cards (Bldg 3494) 0730-1700; SJA Legal Services (Bldg 3439) 0830-1530. 2.) 20 Oct: Free Breakfast and Lunch and Benefits Briefings (Heiser Hall, Bldg 3712) 0900-1215; Health Fair (Free FLu Shots)/vendors and Exhibits - (Community Activity Center, Bldg 3711) 12:15-15:30).
20 Oct - James Clemens H.S. Football team veteran appreciation game to be held at Madison City's stadium. See Post 229 Cdr or Vice Cdr or show up before the game for free tickets. Game begins at 7 P.M. Tickets will be available at the gate at or about 6 P.M.
26 Oct - Monthly open Veterans' Breakfast at Little Libby's Catfish at 234 Lime Quarry Rd., Madison, AL - starts at 08:30 A.M.
28 Oct - Boy Scout Troop Blood Drive (1000 to 1500 hrs) at Madison City Hall on Hughes Rd.
28 Oct: Volunteers needed to build out the new Post 229 parade trailer float.
31 Oct - Trunk N' Treat. Madison City will hold a Trunk or Treat tailgate event for halloween on Main Street, Madison City. Post 229 will participate by handing out American Legion Halloween coloring books and 4 crayons from the back of Cdr's truck. See Cdr's sign-up. (Note: Please save left over (or new wrapped Halloween Candy) to hand out to kids along the Madison Christmas Parade route in December.)
NOV 2023: Numerous veteran week events will be added once finalized...
3 Nov - 17th Annual YMCA Veterans Prayer Breakfast to be held at the Hogan Family YMCA, 130 Park Square, Madison. Veterans' & Military may request free tickets. Doors open & Coffe available at 06:45 a.m. Veterans attend free. Post 229 already has one table reserved - notify Cdr, Post 229 if planning to attend (dress business casual or legion "coat and tie" attire.). 4 Nov - Flag Placement for Veterans Day. 10:00 A.M. meet at Madison City Hall. A Vetarans Gravestone Cleaning event will also be held on the 4th at 11:00 A.M. - meet at the old Civil War cemetery on the southside of Mill Road.

- 9 Nov - Abbreviated Monthly American Legion Post 229 Meeting at 6 p.m. We will have a very short business meeting followed by a meal from Lawlers BBQ. No auxiliary meeting - (we will do our service project of preparing gifts in its place.) All events are held at Black Patch Distilling, 500 Lanier Dr. Suite C3, Madison.

- 11 Nov - Huntsville's Veteran's Day Parade kicks off at 11:00 A.M. Park and board Post 229's trailer at the VA Center (off Markaview/14th street) at 0845 for travel to the assigned parade order location in Huntsville. (Did you misss that there are numerous "Free offerings for veterans, check various new media.)

- 13 Nov - Veteran Hospice Home visits with Affinity Hospice Care and Pallatative Care. Meet at their location on Hughes Rd, across from the new, car wash place and gym at 0900. Visits are from 0900-1400. If volunteers are available on Tuesday, visits will continue.
- 18 Nov - Flag Pick-up for Veterans Day, meet at City Hall at 10:00 a.m.
- 23 Nov - Veteran's Breakfast at Libby CAtfish Diner at 08:30.
- 20 Nov - Game Night at Tut Fann at 6:00 p.m.
Dec 2023:
- 2 Dec - Survivor Outreach Services Children Christmas Party toys/candy support at JAVA Cafe on Redstone.
- 9 Dec - Madison City Christmas Parade. Parade kicks off at 5:00 P.M. Staging time at 3:30 p.m. Location - TBD.
- 14 Dec - Visit with Veterans at Monark Grove, 11260 County Line Rd. Madison. Meet at: 12:00 Noon.
- 14 Dec - Monthly American Legion Post 229 Meeting: (Chili Cook-off Competition) We will have a short business meeting followed by voting and dinner. ( No Auxiliary meeting; we will do our December service project in its place.) The Sign-up Genius to sign up for side dishes/deserts: (American Legion 229: December Mtg Chili Cook-off). Our Post 229 Meeting will begin at1800 (6:00 PM) at Black Patch Distillery, 500 Lanier Dr. Suite C3, Madison.
- 15 Dec - JROTC Flag Retirement Ceremony: 1:00 P.M. at James Clemens High School, behind the school in the Outdoor Classroom area.
- 16 Dec - Christmas Wreaths Placement, for veteran burial sites in Madison. Meet at Madison City Hall at 10:00 a.m..
- 18 Dec - Packing of Christmas Gifts: At 5:00 P.M., meet at Jean's house: 129 Bluff Spring Dr. We are preparing gifts for the veterans at the Downtown Rescue Mission, Madison Manor and Valley View senior facilities.

- 10 Feb - American Legion's Madison County Oratorical Competition will be held at Madison City Hall, 100 Hughes Rd. in Madison. Contestants must arrive by 0930; Competition assistants needed for set-up at 0830. Judges must arrive by 0900.
- 22 Feb - Monthly open Veterans' Breakfast at Little Libby's Catfish at 234 Lime Quarry Rd., Madison, AL - starts at 08:30 A.M.
Mar 2024:
- VFW in Huntsville will be hosting a "Butt" roast in March 2024. Contact Booby Lee for details.
