JAN 2025:

4 Jan - Pick Up Christmas Wreaths, 10:00 A.M. Meet at Madison City Hall on Hughes Rd.
6 Jan - V.A. Clinic Monthly Coffee and Donuts. 08:30-noon. Drop by for a few minutes to greet fellow veterans arriving for their appointments. (Note: Event also identifies new members.)
9 Jan - Monthly American Legion Post 229 Meeting: Auxiliary meeting at 5:30. Legion Family Social at 6:30. Post 229 membership meeting at 7:00 PM. -- maybe at Black Patch Distilling Co., 500 Lanier Dr. Suite C3, Madison. (Note: Post 229 meeting location will be changing. Watch the home page for a new location.)
13 Jan - Madison City Council Meeting at Madison City Hall, 100 Hughes Rd. Madison at 6 P.M. Post 229 to receive recognition for receipt of the Madison County award as the best Madison County Veteran Organization in 2024 and as parade float winner at the 2024 Madison City Christmas Parade on 14 Dec. (Note: Members will not have to stay for the entire city council meeting.)
16 Jan - Veterans Social at Monark Grove at 1:30 P.M. Located at 11260 County Line Rd. Madison, AL 35756. Meet at the pub. Converse with older veterans in assisted living.
18 Jan - Celebration of Life Ceremony at Legacy Chapel, 16 Hughes Rd, Madison at 1 P.M. for Marine Joe Paschall Jr. Dress Code: "Hawaiian shirts and open toed shoes (socks permitted)".
20 Jan - VA Clinic Mid-Month Coffee & Donuts: 8:30-1200.
20 Jan - Game Night with Tut Fann: 6-7:30 P.M.
23-26 Jan - Alabama Legion Mid-Winter Conference; Deadline January 5, 2025 to get a printed badge. Department conference will be held at the Perido Beach Resort, Orange Beach, Alabama. Notify Cdr. Vannoy if interested in attending.
28 Jan - Monthly Veteran Breakfast, 0830 at the IHOP, 8622 Hwy 72 W, Madison, AL 35758.

Feb 2025:

8 Feb - Madison County Oratorical Contest being held at Madison City Hall 100 Hughes Rd, Madison, AL. Volunteers arrive around 08:30 to set-up and greet competitors and their families before the competition begins at 10:00 A.M.
13 Feb - Monthly American Legion Post 229 Meeting: Auxiliary meeting at 5:30; Social prior to membership meeting 6:30 - 8 P.M. at the new location at the renovated Madison Community Center (Madison City Senior Center), 1329 Browns Ferry Rd. 25 Mar - Medal of Honor Day. The Sons of American Legion in Arab are hosting a Medal of Honor Day at 2 P.M., at the Arab City Park, 844 Shoal Creek NE, Arab. Guest Speaker is the Dept of Alabama Veteran Affairs Commissioner, Jeffrey L. Newton.
29 Mar - Vietnam Veterans Day.

26 Apr - ICW Hogan YMCA, a Kids Wellness Day will be held on Saturday from 1000-1200. This annnual YMCA event will feature this year the addition of American Legion Post 229's introductory acrylic painting event for up to 150 youth, and will be held in the YMCA's Arts and Craft room. Event may occur in shifts, given that the room has 10 tables that will accommodate 6 chairs each. Volunteers ICW Boys Scouts needed to support with logistics and arrive at 0900. YMCA will provide media onthis event. A brief mention of the Kid's day was posted on their web site. Staples-Madison printed a poster, which will be visible (as the event approaches) at the entrance to the YMCA.
